Reignite Your New Year's Resolution!

New Year’s has long gone and we’re sure you must have made at least some New Year’s resolution… If you have, how is it going? Is it sticking and are you acing it? Or has it, like most people who make New Year’s resolutions with great intentions, slid into the ‘way too hard’ basket?

If you belong to the latter, here’s a reminder to re-start your resolution and keep you on track.

  1. First, remember your WHY

Your resolution will have a better chance of success if it is purpose driven rather than results focused. Let’s say your goal was to incorporate more yoga into your life. Instead of focusing on how many classes you have done, remember your WHY. Why do you want to do more yoga? Is it to build more strength? Is it to feel good? Is it to find more balance in your life? Those reasons are what will keep you going on days you don’t feel like it.

  1. Build a game plan.

This is where your HOW comes into play. How would you incorporate more yoga into your life? Maybe you could purchase a membership pass at your local yoga studio. Maybe you could subscribe to a yoga app. Or find a yoga teacher you like online and commit to doing 2 – 3 classes each week.

  1. Measure success

How are you winning? Everybody wants to feel like they have achieved something. Track and measure your success even though it’s small. If it’s flexibility you’re after, note how far you can touch your toes. If it’s strength, where are you with your chaturangas? If it’s mindfulness, how are your anxiety or calmness levels? Track your progress every fortnight and note the changes in each area of focus.

  1. Celebrate!

It’s not all work and no play. If you’ve been on track and seeing results, give yourself a great pat on the back. Celebrate however you like, as long as it doesn’t have a detrimental effect to your goal.

To help you along, here’s a 15 minute yoga routine you can follow along to everyday or at least 2 – 3 times a week. Everybody has at least 15 minutes in their day so no excuses!

If, however, you’re the type that benefits from external motivation, join our Yoga Teacher Training, where you’ll be immersed in yoga 24 hours a day, 3 days a week. If that doesn’t get your resolution off to a strong start, we’re not sure what will!

You’ve got this!!
