About Lake Taupo
At the heart of New Zealand’s central volcanic plateau sits the largest freshwater lake in Australasia, Lake Taupo, the great inland sea of New Zealand.
This huge, shining expanse of water, moving between aquamarine blue and jade green, is crystal-clear to a depth of 13 metres. It is home to one of the best wild trout fisheries in the world, more than 30 species of water bird, several types of native fish and native kōura (crayfish).
Taupo is a place of extraordinary natural beauty – a vast, sparkling lake, trout-filled rivers, ancient lush forests, steaming geothermal zones and towering snow-blanketed mountains.
The crystal-clear freshwater of Lake Taupo draws visitors to the town to swim and sunbathe, kayak, fish, enjoy family activities or soak up the atmosphere in the town’s many lakeside restaurants and bars. Further out, there are national and forest parks, natural hot springs, and adventure activity bases, including whitewater rafting, sky-diving and bungy-jumping.
For more information visit Taupo’s Visitor Information site.

“In the transformative journey of my recent yoga teacher training, led by the incredible duo of Joleen and Steve, I found more than just a certification – I discovered a profound experience that transcends the realms of conventional learning. Their wealth of knowledge, coupled with unwavering professionalism, created an environment where wisdom flowed endlessly.
What set this training apart was the emphasis on daily teaching, ensuring that each lesson learned was immediately applied, solidifying our understanding. This training not only equipped me with the theoretical foundation essential for teaching yoga but also instilled a newfound confidence in my abilities. The intimacy of the class, limited to just nine students, cultivated a safe space where we could learn, share, and grow together. This unique setting fostered a sense of camaraderie, making the learning process not just informative, but also deeply enriching on a personal level.
I am forever thankful for this opportunity, for it has not only honed my teaching skills but also transformed me holistically. With newfound confidence, I am ready to embark on my teaching journey, inspired by the wisdom and grace of Joleen and Steve. If you seek a yoga teacher training that goes beyond the ordinary, where learning is intimate, and growth is boundless, this training is the beacon guiding your path toward becoming a yoga teacher.”
"I am SO grateful to have shared these three weeks with Steve and Joleen at Asia Pacific Yoga (and our wonderful yogi family)! They created such a welcoming, warm, and ever-curious environment - laughing with us, sharing their knowledge, welcoming our endless questions!
Both Steve and Joleen have such a breadth of experience and knowledge. I absolutely loved that they had us teaching sections of classes from week 1 of the course, and that we had the opportunity to teach public classes in groups of three. This was such a wonderful way to break down the fear of teaching, and to start to get us used to it!
The house we stayed in was so perfect too, with plenty of space and heated floors for the chilly Taupo nights! Not to mention the unbelievable views of the lake. So many things clicked for me during this YTT. Thanks Steve and Joleen for creating a better course than I could have ever dreamed."
“Steve and Joleen from the very start created this nourishing and safe learning environment one doesn't get to experience often as a student. There were no cheesy icebreakers as a way to get to know everyone- it all felt very organic which is just the way I like it with new people! No force.
Steve's extensive knowledge and passion for the human body paired with Joleen's playful teaching style were the perfect compliments to our jam-packed extensive days. One thing that really stood out was they had us teaching on the very first day, which I loved! There was no intimidating build-up towards the one thing we came here for- to teach. Watching everyone grow with this hands-on approach to learning was pretty magical- personalities came out and everyone quickly developed their own style.
I'm not usually one for schedules, so I must say the experience was the perfect balance of planned lecture/activities and spontaneously inspired tangents and workshops. They were extremely accommodating towards our needs, interests, and energy levels. Not to mention - the house is a ten minute walk from the beach and one of the most magical waterfall hikes.
The entire experience was mind and heart-opening.. the perfect combination of a well-rounded education, human connection, and re-connecting with nature. It was more than just a yoga teacher training- it was an experience that I'll never forget.”
